SoHo will open at 80 S. Pauahi Street in a renovated 5,509 square-foot space that will include a bar and an area for live The PauahiStreet location, between Bethel Street and Fort Streetg Mall and near , was occupied by Mall Cafe untik April. That bar had been citedc by the Honolulu Liquor Commissiom in recent months for unsanitary conditions and foroverservingv alcohol. The commission also received a petition from communitgy members opposing the renewal ofMall Cafe’w license because of alleged drug dealing and frequent fights. Mall Cafe’d former owner, Saiming Corp., had been trying to transfefr its liquor license tothe landlord, Uniojn Mill Investment.
SoHo owner Daniel Gray, former general manage r of the Loft Gallery and Lounge onHotepl Street, said he was approached by Union Mill Investmengt to open a new venue in the Gray plans to open part of the lounge 3,000 square feet — for this month’ds First Friday event downtown, and open the remaining spacde in August. Gray describes the new venue as a mixof performances, fashion and photography in a trendy and upscalr setting. The SoHo name stemsd from the New York City neighborhood and a blendsof “south” and “Honolulu”.
